“I’m getting serious on January 1 !” ….sound familiar?  “New Year’s Resolution” day is coming for the fitness industry.  A lot of people have a fire under them to get control of their eating habits and start a new fitness routine.  The problem?  Most people that start on 1/1 don’t last a month.

Fitness and the Holidays

The 4th quarter of the year (October-December) is a stressful time.  Planning events, saving for gifts, and travel take up residency in our minds and we can’t help but feel a bit overwhelmed.  If there was ever a time for a positive stress relief, the holidays are it.  We need fitness and time for ourselves now more than ever.  One key part of keeping your self confidence high through the holidays is keeping fitness a priority, especially with all the food.  There’s nothing more deflating than overeating through the holidays and starting the New Year off at an uncomfortable weight.

This is actually why a lot of people end up giving up on their resolutions, especially with fitness and nutrition.  When you’re fired up about starting a new routine and the results don’t come as fast as you’d like, it’s easy to give up.  Was it the routine that you found on Google?  Maybe you didn’t push hard enough?  Maybe this isn’t for you?


It takes time to put on weight and unfortunately it takes more time to take it off.  Unless you’re seriously into fitness, it’s not your job to know exactly what routine to do and how to do it.  This is how people at most gyms end up on the treadmill or elliptical, lifting a few weights on machines, maybe do some bicep curls and then head home.  A big gym can be intimidating, especially if the gym is outside of your comfort zone.
